86-year-old Pine Bush man dies in Shawangunk crash

SHAWANGUNK — Troopers from State Police Ellenville responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle collision on State Route 52 in the town of Shawangunk on June 10 at approximately 12:44 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Honda was traveling eastbound on Route 52 at a high rate of speed when it crossed the double yellow line, exited the roadway onto the north shoulder, struck a utility pole, and overturned multiple times before ultimately coming to rest after striking a tree.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Bernard A. Pohl, age 86, of Pine Bush.

Pohl succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The New York State Police was assisted by Shawangunk Police Department.
