Halfmoon man charged with felony after motor vehicle crash

HALFMOON — A 40-year-old Halfmoon man faces felony charges following a motor vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 4:37 p.m. at the intersection of Cemetery Road and Saratoga Drive.

Michael R. Evangelista was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, a class E felony.

He also faces charges of failing to yield right of way on a left turn, unregistered motor vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Evangelista is accused of operating a motor vehicle while he had 10 or more suspensions imposed on at least 10 separate dates for failure to answer, appear or pay a fine.

He allegedly had a total of 14 scofflaws on 11 dates at the time of the crash.

Evangelista is also charged with failing to yield the right of way to a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction as he took a left turn.

He was additionally charged with operating a motor vehicle on a public highway that was not registered.

Evangelista was released on appearance tickets pending further proceedings in Halfmoon Town Court.
