Alfred A contractor in Alfred reported to the York County Sheriff’s Office last Saturday that his construction trailer had been broken into and that tools valued at thousands of dollars had been taken.

Deputy Cody Frazier found that Sanford resident Evan Chapman, 27, was in possession of fentanyl when he pulled over a car on Monday for a traffic infraction.

Chapman was taken into custody for illegally possessing a controlled substance.

Deputy Frazier found tools in Chapman’s car that had been reported stolen from the construction trailer during a follow-up search.

Most of the stolen tools were found and recovered at a storage unit in Sanford after deputies conducted additional investigation.

Zachary Jabar, 34, of Rye, New Hampshire, was interviewed by investigators on Wednesday and acknowledged helping Chapman commit the theft.

Jabar was also linked to the theft of a $500 generator from a Tractor Supply shop in Sanford, according to information gathered during the investigation.

The stolen generator was found when deputies carried out a search warrant at a home on Kennebunk Road in Alfred.

Jabar and Chapman are accused of Class C theft.

The first court hearing for both individuals is set on October 14 at the York Judicial Center.

The generator and tools that were taken have been given back to their owners.
