The spring field In relation to an armed carjacking, Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau, Firearms Investigation Unit, and Squad C officers apprehended a suspect and confiscated a large capacity weapon at around 10:35 p.m. on Thursday.
Officers were called to the 2800 block of Main Street at approximately 9:45 p.m. in response to an allegation of an armed carjacking.
Two suspects allegedly approached a victim, one of whom was armed.
It is claimed that after removing the victim from his automobile, the suspects took it.
Officers received a picture of the stolen car from members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center.
Officers saw the car on Carew Street close to Dwight Street at approximately 10:15 p.m.
On the 100 block of Webster Street, two suspects leaped from the car as assisting officers arrived.
Because the car was not in park, it collided with another parked, empty car on Webster Street.
The passenger, who was eventually identified as Angel Suastegui, was apprehended by officers on Vinton Street.
Then, when Suastegui was running, officers came across a gun.
The gun could store 15 rounds and was loaded with 14 rounds of ammo.
More ammunition was also found in Suastegui’s pocket by the officers.
Suastegui has already been convicted of two crimes involving guns.
On Thursday night, the other suspect managed to get away from the police.
The investigation is being conducted by the Springfield Police Detective Bureau.
Armed carjacking, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public road, possessing a large capacity firearm while committing a felony, firearm violation with two previous violent or drug-related offenses, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without a FID card, tampering or destruction of evidence, carrying a firearm without a license, possessing a large capacity firearm in a vehicle, trespassing, assault, and battery are among the charges against 22-year-old Springfield resident Angel Suastegui.
