A WEBSTER After an incident at a Lake Street apartment complex, a Worcester man on probation for violent crimes has been taken into custody on several felony charges.
At 2:45 a.m. on June 24, Webster police officers Shane Murray and Bryan Blomgren arrested Robert Banks, 26, of Blackstone River Road, Worcester.
The charges are related to an incident that happened at 54 Lake Street on June 17 at 12:08 a.m., when Webster police, assisted by Dudley police, responded to allegations of a fight in progress.
The incident was investigated by Webster officers Murray, Bryan Blomgren, and Joe Stephens as well as Dudley officer Byron Lara.
Prior to their arrival, police discovered that the suspect had driven out of the apartment complex.
Officer Murray was informed by two victims that an unidentified male who was the boyfriend of a third-floor renter had attacked them.
According to a young victim, he had gone to the third level to request that Banks and the tenant stop playing music.
Before the victim’s father attempted to step in, police say Banks opened the door and punched the young person in the side of the head.
The father was then repeatedly struck in the head by Banks, which caused both victims to flee in the direction of their apartment.
Before the victims could shut the door and dial 911, Banks pursued them and tried to break into their flat.
With injuries, one victim was sent to UMass Webster.
With the help of Worcester Superior Court probation authorities and Southbridge Police Officer Santos, Officer Murray was able to definitely identify Banks.
At the time of the incident, Banks was on probation from the superior court.
Banks refused to give police his identity when he was taken into custody.
The charges against Banks include two counts of assault with intent to conduct a felony, two counts of assault and battery, and two counts of burglary with an assault.
In 2020, Banks was charged in Worcester with armed robbery, assault and battery with a firearm, armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a handgun, kidnapping with a firearm, and several other firearm-related offenses.
For those offenses, he was placed on probation for three years after serving 18 months in the House of Corrections.
In addition to the additional allegations, Banks is being held for violating his probation.
