UTICA A 12-year-old kid was taken into custody by Utica police on June 30 in relation to a shooting that occurred in the 900 block of Stark Street on May 31.
After a ShotSpotter report of gunfire, police units were first sent to the scene.
At the location, officers discovered multiple expended bullet casings.
GIVE investigators were tasked with investigating the case further.
Charges were brought against the suspect after investigators found surveillance footage of him and other supporting documentation.
The suspect was 12 years old, according to the police, and had an active Oneida County Family Court warrant.
The defendant was found and taken into custody by investigators from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit and Utica Police.
The young person was accused of first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a handgun.
Because of his age, the juvenile’s name will not be made public.
