LeRoy police arrest 2 after high-speed chase involving stolen car, gun

LEROY Tuesday afternoon saw the recovery of a stolen car and firearm, two arrests, and a high-speed pursuit that reached over 120 mph.

The LeRoy Police Department reports that when Officer T.J. Mummery tried to pull over a Honda Accord for traffic infractions, the driver bolted rather than stop.

Before the culprit turned back toward LeRoy, the chase proceeded toward Livingston County.

Mummery made an attempt to stop the escaping suspect by purposeful vehicle contact, but the pursuit went on without success.

When the suspect got out of the car and tried to conceal by breaking into a garage on Church Street, the pursuit came to a stop.

With the help of the Batavia Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Batavia PD’s drone unit, and Officer Stephen Quider with K9 Batu, the male suspect was found and taken into custody.

At the scene, a female passenger who had stayed in the car was also arrested.

During the arrest, officers discovered that the male suspect was carrying a loaded, stolen firearm.

The car was reported stolen from Rochester, and in order to evade identification, the license plates were switched.

Less than eight days earlier, the male suspect was taken into custody on almost the same allegations, according to the police.

Because she stole a car, the female passenger is presently on probation.
