Maine troopers arrest driver after hit-and-run crash in Hollis

HOLLIS A driver was taken into custody by Maine State Police troopers on Tuesday after a hit-and-run accident damaged a house.

Troops from the Southern Field Troop were called to a crash scene on Route 5 close to Wakefield Road at around 11 a.m.

According to witnesses, a tan minivan struck a property and then took off.

The 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan had veered off the road, driven a considerable distance, and collided with a house’s chimney, causing serious damage.

There were no injuries.

Troopers eventually located the vehicle at a house in the 300 block of Deerwander Road, 4.5 miles distant, after following a trash trail and gathering more information.

After a quick investigation, authorities identified the driver as Gary Norton, 43, at around 11:30 a.m.

Norton was apprehended without any problems and sent to the York County Jail.

He was accused with misdemeanor fleeing the scene of an accident, felony aggravated operating after chronic offender revocation, felony aggravated driving to endanger, and felony aggravated criminal mischief.
