NORFOLK The New York State Police are looking into a July 1 incident in the town of Norfolk that resulted in a person’s death.
State Police officers responded to a 911 call at around 12:43 a.m. regarding a knife-related domestic altercation at a home on O Neil Road in Norfolk.
Troopers arrived to see a person in the driveway brandishing a knife.
The person was ordered to drop the knife by the troopers, and they did so.
When questioned, the person—who was named as the victim of the altercation—said that 47-year-old Norfolk resident Bernie K. Russo was threatening him and carrying an unidentified weapon.
Russo was making loud sounds and smashing items around inside the house when troopers told him to go outside.
Russo came out with an unidentified thing.
Once more, the Troopers gave him verbal orders to drop the object, and he did so.
Russo appeared to have a manic episode and collapsed to the ground before the Troopers could get close to him.
The troopers put him in handcuffs for everyone’s safety and because of the charges that are still pending from the domestic conflict.
In order to respond to the scene and assess Russo’s condition, they also called medical emergency services.
Russo lost consciousness while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical professionals.
As soon as possible, the Troopers started saving lives.
Not long later, Massena Rescue showed up and carried on with these efforts, but Russo was declared dead.
The deceased has been reported to the New York State Attorney General’s Office in accordance with Executive Law Section 70-b.
The inquiry is still under progress.
