Maine will have another wave of oppressive heat from today through Friday, following a period of dry and comparatively cool weather.
Most of Maine will see temperatures in the 80s on Thursday, with heat indices getting close to 90.
The mid-90s will be the highest temperature on Friday.
In southern Maine, where a heat advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, heavy humidity will make it feel closer to 100 degrees, according to Stephen Baron of the National Weather Service in Gray.
“Be sure to exercise caution on Friday. Seek shade and drink plenty of water if you’re outside,” he said.
According to Baron, there is a chance of severe thunderstorms on Friday night when a mass of cooler air moves into the state.
“So we’re expecting to see some of that on Friday afternoon, early evening, and then following those thunderstorms, we’ll see a pretty big drop in temperatures,” he explained.
According to Baron, Friday night temperatures will drop into the 60s.
