Golden supports release of Epstein files saying Trump helped stoke Americans’ interest

Maine Congressman Jared Golden reaffirmed his support on Monday for the release of documents pertaining to the government’s investigation of alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. He stated that the files should be made public since Americans’ expectations have been raised by President Trump and other lawmakers.

In a lengthy interview on Maine Calling, Golden, a Democrat representing the Trump-friendly 2nd District, claimed that the president and other elected people fostered several conspiracy theories about Epstein and the criminal accusations that he trafficked minor females.

“It’s been the American people who have been told repeatedly by many elected officials to include the sitting president of the United States that this is an issue that they should be paying attention to, that it was indicative of a cover-up on behalf of the wealthy and the powerful and the elite in this country,” Golden stated.

In the past, Trump has demanded a thorough investigation and has implied that well-known Democrats are involved in the controversy. Amid rumors that he may be in the investigative files, he has since termed the entire situation a farce.

In order to avoid a vote intended to force the documents’ publication, House Speaker Mike Johnson began the customary August recess early. However, there is no indication that the problem will go away, and it may take center stage when Congress reconvenes in September.
