ABBOT After police used spike strips to halt the car during a pursuit that concluded in Beaver Cove on the evening of June 25, a 30-year-old male from Massachusetts was taken into custody.
The incident started at 9 p.m. when Monson reported to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office that someone had stolen a friend’s car and was driving under the influence.
After spotting the car on Abbot’s Route 15, Deputy Pina tried to start a traffic stop by turning on the siren and emergency lights.
The car continued to accelerate northward without stopping, veering wildly through Shirley and Monson on its way to Greenville.
As the car entered the Greenville region, police from the Greenville Police Department deflated its tires and installed spike strips.
A second spike strip was used by another Greenville Police squad to damage the remaining tires as the motorist drove north.
The car proceeded up Lilly Bay Road and into Beaver Cove, where it finally stopped, despite severe tire damage.
After being arrested, the driver—Edward Goodwin, 30, of Marshfield, Massachusetts—was transferred to the Piscataquis County Jail.
Eluding a police officer, operating under the influence, driving to endanger, driving without a license, and illegal speeding were among the charges brought against Goodwin.
