Buffalo woman charged with smuggling drugs into Beekman prison

BEEKMAN — A New York State Trooper assigned to SP Poughkeepsie responded to Greenhaven Correctional Facility in the Town of Beekman on June 14 following a report of contraband being introduced into the facility by a visitor.

Following an investigation, authorities determined that Dawn M. Jones-Mills, 60, of Buffalo, had smuggled over 200 pills and approximately 26 pieces of legal paper treated with an unknown substance into the prison.

As a result of the investigation, Jones-Mills was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree with intent to sell, a class D felony.

She was also charged with knowingly introducing dangerous contraband into a prison in the 1st degree, a class D felony.

Jones-Mills faces two additional counts of promoting prison contraband in the 2nd degree, both class A misdemeanors.

Jones-Mills was arraigned in the Town of Beekman Court and released on her own recognizance.

She is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Beekman Court on June 26 at 6 p.m.
