CANDOR — The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 42-year-old Candor man on rape and strangulation charges following an investigation into unlawful sexual contact with a person under 17.
William E. Youst Jr. was arrested June 3 and charged with first-degree rape, a class B felony; second-degree strangulation, a class D felony; first-degree criminal contempt, a class E felony; and third-degree rape, a class E felony.
Youst was arraigned in Tioga County CAP Court on June 3 before Justice Sandra Lute.
He was remanded to the Tioga County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash, $100,000 bond, or $250,000 surety bond.
Youst is scheduled to appear in the Town of Candor Court on July 7 before Justice Mary Townsend for further proceedings.
In a separate case, the sheriff’s office arrested Marquise Evans, 31, of Elmira on June 4 on charges of two counts of criminal obstruction of breathing, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
The charges resulted from an investigation into a domestic disturbance.
Evans was arraigned in CAP Court before Justice Grinage and remanded to the Tioga County Jail on $5,000 bail.
Evans is scheduled to appear in the Town of Barton Court on June 10.
