Catskill man arrested on child exploitation charges

CATSKILL — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Matthew M. Maurer, age 38, of Catskill, on June 10 following an investigation into the possession of child sexual exploitation materials.

Maurer was charged with one count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 16 Years of Age, a Class E felony.

The investigation determined that Maurer was in possession of numerous images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children, including some involving infants.

The investigation began on Jan. 23 when Maurer met with his parole officer for a mandatory meeting.

During that meeting, the parole officer discovered sexually explicit images and videos of minors on Maurer’s phone, resulting in an immediate violation of parole.

Maurer was initially arrested on the parole violation and transported to Greene County Jail, where he remained in custody.

On June 10, Maurer was ordered by the court to appear at State Police Catskill for processing on the felony charge.

Following his arrest and processing, he was remanded back to Greene County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in Greene County Court on June 24 at 9:45 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
