Cornwall man arrested in decades-long sexual abuse case involving minors

CORNWALL James Valentine, 57, of Cornwall, was arrested on July 2 by the New York State Police on suspicion of committing a pattern of abuse in the Town of Clarkstown that lasted more than 20 years.

On June 4, the SP Montgomery Bureau of Criminal Investigation received a report about Valentine’s inappropriate interactions with two male victims, both 15 years old, at his house in Cornwall.

According to the inquiry, Valentine allegedly made inappropriate physical contact with several young male victims over a 20-year period.

He faced charges of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child 2nd, a class D felony, and Attempted Criminal Sexual Act 1st, a class C felony.

Valentine was committed to Rockland County Jail after being charged in Clarkstown Town Court. The bail amount was set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $75,000 partially secured bond.

His next court appearance is set for July 7.

The Rockland and Orange County District Attorney’s Offices, Clarkstown Police, and the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force all provided support to the State Police.

There may be more unidentified victims in and around New York, according to authorities.
