A FAIRFIELD In relation to an incident that killed a moped operator on Saturday night, a 16-year-old Bridgeport driver has been charged as an adult.
Around 9:30 p.m. on June 21, Juan Otilio Tista Tista, 25, of Bridgeport, was killed at a nearby hospital after his moped was hit at the intersection of Post Road and South Benson Road.
According to the police, Antony Gutierrez Silva tried to turn left into South Benson Road while traveling west on Post Road.
Investigators said Gutierrez Silva got into the way of Tista Tista’s moped, which was heading east on Post Road in the right lane.
According to investigators, Gutierrez Silva left the area without providing assistance or alerting the authorities.
When a witness tried to follow the escaping motorist, Gutierrez Silva hit the witness’s car in an attempt to get away and kept running, according to the police.
Later that night, officers found Gutierrez Silva at his home in Bridgeport and took his car.
Charges against Gutierrez Silva include operating a motor vehicle without a license, dodging responsibility that results in death, failing to give way when turning left, and negligent murder with a motor vehicle.
Because motor vehicle charges are not regarded as juvenile problems in Connecticut, he is being charged as an adult.
The event is being looked into by the Crash Reconstruction Unit of the Fairfield Police Department.
