Field of potential champions for Saturday’s Beach to Beacon 10K is open

On Saturday, 6500 runners will compete in Cape Elizabeth’s Beach to Beacon 10k.

International elite runners participate in the race, which was founded 27 years ago by Olympic marathon winner Joan Benoit Samuelson of Maine. The field of possible victors is open this year, according to race director Dave McGillivray.

As McGillivray put it, “It’s a barn burner for tomorrow,” “I mean, this race might be won by one of twenty people. There isn’t a single person who says, “Oh, that person is the favorite.” Favorites don’t exist. which is fantastic. Because that’s what people want to see, and it turns into a highly competitive climate.”

“The race is an opportunity for people to commit to a goal,” McGillivray continues.

“Earn the right, tow the line, answer the gun, run the course, cross the finish line, and magic happens,” he stated. “They all feel good about themselves when they return home. And since it’s what enables us to achieve anything in life, feeling good about ourselves is the most powerful thing in the world.”

The biggest road race in Maine is called the Beach to Beacon. Wheelchair, open, American-only, masters, and Maine are among the divisions.
