MOUNT MORRIS — Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Geneseo resident on felony charges following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began after the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Livingston County Department of Social Services regarding possible welfare fraud.
Sheriff’s investigators conducted an inquiry into the allegations.
It is alleged that 40-year-old Ian Hunter failed to accurately report the composition of his household and additional household income.
As a result, Hunter collected an overpayment in SNAP and Cash Assistance Benefits that he was not entitled to from September through April.
On June 9, Sheriff’s Investigator James Merrick arrested and charged Hunter with two counts of felony Welfare Fraud in the Fourth Degree and two counts of felony Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree.
Hunter was transported to the Livingston County Jail, where he was turned over to Central Booking Deputies for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
Hunter was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before the Town of York Justice Porter.
The judge remanded the defendant to the custody of the Sheriff’s Office on no bail based upon him having two or more felony convictions.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Hunter at the court arraignment for his defense.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was notified and appeared to represent the People.
