HAMPTON — A 34-year-old Hampton man was arrested Thursday on felony firearm possession charges after investigators determined he possessed a handgun while under court orders prohibiting him from having firearms.
Salvatore C. Niro was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony, and criminal contempt in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, according to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation that found Niro was in possession of a handgun despite having multiple court orders barring him from possessing any firearm.
The criminal contempt charge stems from intentional disobedience of a court mandate.
Niro was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned in Hampton Town Court at a later date.
