Illinois hiker dies after fall at Hunter waterfall

A HUNTER On June 20, a 70-year-old man from Illinois passed away after he fell down a granite ledge at Kaaterskill Falls.

State Police say that at around 6:16 p.m., Jack Wersching of Park Ridge, Illinois, was hiking when he fell from the ledge down the stone steps of the trailway below.

At Hunter’s Laurel House Road, troopers from the State Police Catskill barracks were called to the scene of an injured hiker at the falls.

Wersching received life-saving treatment at the spot after suffering serious injuries.

He was declared dead at the site in spite of these attempts.

The inquiry is still under progress.
