DURHAM — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening when his motorcycle collided with a dump truck on Hallowell Road.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fatal crash at approximately 6:12 p.m. near 1101 Hallowell Road.
The initial investigation indicates that a 1986 Suzuki LS650 motorcycle was traveling north on Hallowell Road when a 2025 Peterbilt 589 dump truck was exiting the Jaiden Landscaping gravel pit and attempting to turn south.
The truck entered the northbound lane during the turn, at which point the motorcyclist came around the curve and laid the motorcycle down in an attempt to avoid collision.
Despite the maneuver, the motorcycle collided with the truck.
The motorcyclist was identified as 32-year-old Coplin Fickett of Durham.
Fickett was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The operator of the dump truck, 24-year-old Thomas Mosier of Pownal, was uninjured.
The truck is owned by Moon Construction Services, LLC.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, Durham Fire and Rescue, Durham Public Works, and the Brunswick Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
