Naples prepares for July 4 celebration with road closures, heavy traffic expected

NAPLES Plans for the town’s July 4 celebration were released by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, which cautioned visitors to anticipate high levels of automobile and pedestrian traffic during the day and evening.

The Long Lake fireworks show is set to begin at 9:15 p.m.

From 9:10 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Route 302 will be closed to traffic at the junctions of Lakehouse Road, Lambs Mill Road, Route 114 (Sebago Road), and Route 35 (Harrison Road).

In the hours before and during the fireworks, Route 302 is anticipated to see delays and road closures.

Due to anticipated heavy traffic, those who are unable to attend are advised to look for alternate routes.

Both on land and in the water, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Warden Service, the Naples Fire-Rescue Department, and EMS will be heavily represented at the event.

During the festivities, police will employ drones.

Officials advise guests not to drink and drive on water or roads and to be properly hydrated to prevent heat-related catastrophes.

Participants are asked to phone 911 or report any suspicious or dangerous activities to on-site public safety officers.
