HORSEHEADS — A New York State Police patrol vehicle was struck by an out-of-control car while a trooper was clearing debris from Interstate 86 on June 11.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:23 p.m. on Interstate 86 eastbound near Exit 54 in the town of Horseheads, Chemung County.
A state trooper had parked his marked patrol vehicle on the south shoulder and exited to remove large debris from the left passing lane of the highway.
While the trooper was outside his vehicle, an eastbound 2018 Chrysler Pacifica operated by Lynn M. Tolbert, 76, lost control after striking another vehicle.
The Pacifica then sideswiped the parked patrol vehicle, causing property damage.
The trooper was not in the patrol vehicle at the time of the collision and was uninjured.
Tolbert sustained minor abrasions and declined medical treatment at the scene.
