North Elba man arrested after crash leads to stolen vehicle, credit card charges

ELBA’S NORTH On June 24, John F. Kimberly, 46, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody by New York State Police following an investigation into a single-vehicle collision that resulted in multiple felonies related to stolen items.

At around 11:56 a.m., authorities were called to a property damage accident on North Elba’s Old Military Road.

According to the police, Kimberly was traveling southeast on Old Military Road in a white 2018 Jeep when he lost control, veered into the oncoming lane, and pulled off the road, landing off it.

Kimberly refused medical assistance when Lake Placid EMS arrived on the scene.

A follow-up inquiry revealed that the Saranac Lake Police Department had reported the Jeep Kimberly was driving as stolen.

After being informed, Saranac Lake Police verified that the car was stolen.

For interrogation, Kimberly was taken to SP Ray Brook.

Kimberly reported a leg injury sustained in the collision while at the police station.

After arriving at the scene, Saranac Lake Rescue took SP Ray Brook to Adirondack Medical Center, where he received treatment before being released.

After that, he was sent back to SP Ray Brook to be processed.

Kimberly was charged with four charges of criminal possession of stolen property involving credit cards, criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree pertaining to a motor vehicle.

In lieu of $5,000 cash bail or a $10,000 partially secured bond, he was remanded to Essex County Jail after being arraigned in Town of North Elba Court.
