ORISKANY FALLS — A deputy with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday afternoon after he fled a traffic stop and was found with methamphetamine, according to Sheriff Robert Maciol.

The incident occurred just after 3:44 p.m. June 12 when a deputy assigned to the Waterville Field Office conducted a traffic stop on a Honda four-wheeler on South Main Street in the Village of Oriskany Falls.

Kenneth M. Thurston of Oriskany Falls fled the scene on foot after the traffic stop, officials said.

After a brief foot pursuit, the deputy apprehended Thurston by deploying a Taser.

Thurston actively resisted arrest by fighting with the deputy, and a Good Samaritan stopped to assist with placing him into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Further investigation revealed that Thurston was in possession of 13.82 grams of methamphetamine.

Thurston was transported to the Kurt Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was charged with obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Thurston was transported to CAP Court and released on his own recognizance.

He is due to return to the Town of Augusta Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was assisted by the New York State Police, the Oriskany Falls Fire Department and Main St Auto Care.
