MENTZ — A Port Byron man has been charged with petit larceny after allegedly stealing chainsaws from his workplace, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Jeffrey P. Shields, 32, was arrested June 5 following an investigation into a theft complaint at a business on Route 31 in the town of Mentz.
Deputies responded to the business at approximately 12:19 p.m. after receiving a report that an employee was suspected of stealing tools.
The investigation revealed that Shields had taken chainsaws from the business without permission, according to Sheriff Brian Schenck.
Shields was taken into custody and released with an appearance ticket.
He is scheduled to appear in Port Byron Village Court on June 17 at 6:00 p.m.
