On June 25, Charlee J. Cobin, 29, of Angelica, was taken into custody by PRINCETOWN State Police on charges of second-degree grand larceny related to an alleged extortion scheme.
The Schenectady County District Attorney’s office called Princetown BCI’s State Police at around 10:48 a.m. on May 22 in reference to a citizen who claimed to have been the victim of extortion.
Cobin met the victim online in April 2024, according to the inquiry.
Cobin is accused of asking the victim for money during their conversations.
Cobin allegedly threatened to reveal their communications when the victim refused to give money, which caused the victim great embarrassment and mockery.
More than $250,000 was allegedly extorted from the victim by Cobin between April 2024 and April of this year.
Cobin was taken to SP Princetown for processing after being taken into custody at her Allegany County residence.
She was freed on her own recognizance after being arraigned in Schenectady City Court.
