Scarborough man charged in fatal hit-and-run crash

Scarborough Following a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a cyclist last week, a 67-year-old man has been charged with fleeing the scene.

According to the Scarborough Police Department, Saran Sun was charged on July 2 with a class C felony—leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving injury or death.

Around 4:15 a.m. on June 27, the collision happened near Southgate Road on U.S. Route 1.

While riding a bicycle, 50-year-old Howard Gribbin was hit by a car whose driver ran away.

After being taken to Maine Medical Center, Gribbin passed away from his wounds.

For around three hours, Route 1 between Haigis Parkway and Payne Road was closed while police looked into the incident.

On July 1, police discovered a suspicious car.

Sun was identified as the vehicle’s operator on the morning of the collision, and the vehicle was found at around 4:21 a.m. on July 2.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
