Sidney Jason R. Lagano, 37, of Port Crane, was taken into custody by New York State Police on June 19 on suspicion of second-degree assault and possession of a weapon.
Lagano is charged with the class D felony of second-degree assault and the misdemeanors of unauthorized possession of a noxious matter and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
Troops received word on May 8 that a victim was being treated at UHS Wilson Medical Center for injuries received at an Afton residence.
Troopers discovered that the victim had been hit with an item and pepper sprayed, resulting in fractures to both arms.
A warrant for Lagano’s arrest was issued after troopers failed to find him right away.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Department found Lagano on June 19 and turned him over to the troopers.
After being processed at SP Sidney, Lagano was sent to the Chenango County Jail for a centralized arraignment, after which a judge granted him his release on his own recognizance.
On July 1, he is expected to appear at Afton Town Court.
