Tanker truck overturns on I-95 in Old Town, driver hospitalized

OLD TOWN At around 12:15 p.m. on Friday, a water tanker truck overturned in the median on Interstate 95 close to mile marker 198.

Robert Pierce, 58, of Westbrook, was the driver when the collision occurred, and he was thrown from the car as it was heading south.

Troopers came swiftly and provided medical assistance.

Pierce had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center by Old Town Fire & Rescue.

Vehicles are currently navigating the area utilizing the breakdown lane while crews continue their job, despite the closure of two lanes of traffic.

In addition to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Bouchard’s Towing is on the scene.

Within an hour, the road should be fully reopened.

According to Maine State Police, speed appears to have played a role in the collision, while the investigation is still ongoing.
