Troy, NY man sentenced to 12 years in fatal drug sales

Waterville A Troy man who sold drugs that killed two men has been given a 12-year sentence in state prison.

David Mathes, 28, pleaded guilty to two charges of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and was sentenced by Judge Thomas Marcelle, according to Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon’s announcement on Friday.

Mathes’ 12-year sentence will be followed by three years of monitoring after his release.

The case was prosecuted by the Street Crimes Unit’s Assistant District Attorney, Erin LaValley.

Two overdose deaths over a four-month period prompted the investigation to begin in the summer of 2024.

Mathes was arrested and charged after Watervliet Police detectives connected him to the deadly narcotics sales.

Throughout the case, the Albany County District Attorney’s office collaborated with the Watervliet Police Department.
