WEST SPRINGFIELD After colliding with a police cruiser early on Saturday morning, a 25-year-old male from West Springfield was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.
After the collision at Riverdale Street and Ashley Avenue at 2:08 a.m., Leeony Tessier was charged with making an incorrect turn, operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, and operating under the influence of alcohol.
Despite no-turn and no-U-turn signs being placed, Tessier was heading south on Riverdale Street when he abruptly turned left into the path of a police car that was heading north, according to the police.
In order to check on Tessier and the other two passengers in the other car, the officer who was involved in the collision managed to get out of his cruiser.
Despite being instructed to stay in the car, Tessier got out when the police opened his driver-side door to check on him.
Tessier was using the automobile to steady himself because he was shaky on his feet, the officer noticed.
A bottle of Corona beer was also found in Tessier’s cup holder by the police.
Officers noticed symptoms of intoxication during questioning, and Tessier acknowledged consuming multiple Coors Light beers.
Tessier was taken into custody and taken to police headquarters for booking after failing a standardized field sobriety test.
Before Tessier’s car was removed, officers discovered multiple open alcohol containers inside.
Tessier’s car’s two occupants departed the scene without suffering any injuries.
After receiving minor injuries, the police officer was taken to a hospital and then released.
