Woman charged after children found in locked hot car in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK After police discovered two toddlers confined in a hot car outside Walmart on June 25, a 30-year-old woman was taken into custody.

Talita Sonia De Carvalho Silva is charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a kid, and leaving a child under the age of twelve in a car alone.

After witnesses reported that an 8-year-old and a 1-month-old were locked inside the car, officers arrived at the business.

Witnesses informed police that the 8-year-old was attempting to exit the car when the alarm went off.

Both children were weeping and drenched in sweat when the officers arrived.

The kids were sent to the nearby hospital by Naugatuck Emergency Medical Services.

Silva was detained after leaving the store and walking to the vehicle where the kids were found.

After posting a $10,000 non-surety bond, she was freed.

On July 9 at 9 a.m., Silva is expected to appear in Waterbury Superior Court.
