YONKERS At approximately 3:37 a.m. on July 3, State Police received a report of an individual walking against the flow of traffic in the southbound lanes of the New York State Thruway between Exits 6A and 6.
Troopers were responding to find the pedestrian at approximately 3:43 a.m. when it was reported that a motor vehicle had struck the pedestrian.
The female pedestrian was found laying in the road by responding troopers and emergency medical workers, and she was declared dead.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the dead was hit by a car in the left lane when she was walking north in the southbound lanes.
Until the family is notified, the deceased’s identity is being kept secret.
The inquiry is still ongoing, and no tickets have been issued.
Every Thruway lane that was blocked during the investigation is now open.
