YORKVILLE — The Yorkville Police Department is investigating a fatal incident involving a pedestrian and an Amtrak passenger train that occurred June 12 at about 10:57 a.m.
Police responded to the area behind Fairview Avenue in the village for reports of a pedestrian struck by an Amtrak train.
The train stopped following the incident and immediately contacted emergency services.
The pedestrian was located and determined to be deceased.
The railway tracks were closed in both directions for two hours for the investigation and have since been reopened.
The Yorkville Police Department was assisted by the Whitesboro, Whitestown and Amtrak police departments along with the Yorkville Fire Department and the Onondaga medical examiner’s office.
The investigation is being conducted by the Yorkville Police Department, which has not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Police are currently investigating whether the death was a result of suicide or if it was an accident.
